SOPEP - Ship Oil Pollution Emergency Plan and List of Equipment Requirement.

What is Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) In Marine Ship.
>It is an emergency plan to be followed at the time of oil pollusion
>MARPOL 73/78 Annex 1 Regulation 37 – Every ship of 400tons gross tonnage and above  and every oil tanker of 150 ton gross tonnage and above shall carry on board a Shipboard oil Pollution Emergency Plan approved by the administration.
>The purpose of SOPEP is to provide guidance on the steps to be taken in the event of oil pollution incident.

The SOPEP Consists of,
 >General information about Ship, owner of the ship,pumping arrangement,mid-ship section plan etc
 >Procedure to be followed to report an oil pollution, by Master and other persons having the charge of ship
 >Procedure to be followed to reduce the oil pollution by the persons on board.
 > Authorities to contact if the pollution occurs
 > Location of Sopep locker and List of equipment to reduce or stop the oil pollution (contents of locker )
>It should be kept with master and chief engineer

    1. these are spill kits with PPE,ABSORBENT MATERIAL,HAND TOOLS, PUMPS & AUXILIARIES,STORAGE AND WASTE COLLECTION,CLEANING EQUIPMENT ETC. barrel refers to the capacity of the kit.

    1. Depends on what you need to update.
      Normally this training manual should hold information about your equipments on board plus procedures, trainings, location and so and so on. This is NOT mandatory but always subject to PSC officers. SO IN OTHER WORDS
      you can always update / change the book / manual on board.

  12. The minimum requirements of what a SOPEP box must contain is NOT stated in MARPOL regulations. America and the Panama canal do have minimum requirements, so be aware of that when you will sail to these areas.
    Companies that sell SOPEP boxes want you to think these requirements are mandatory, but they are not!

  14. Better make Drainage length around on deck, and there must no any drain line to the sea, when built a ship complete structure. When oil overflow on main deck, oil will go to drainage.
