Safeties, Alarms And Shutdowns In Marine Purifier

Alarms and safeties are changes according to make and model. Here listing out some important alarm and Safeties for marine purifiers.

Safeties In Purifier
> Low pressure switch in the outlet of clean oil
> Emergency Brake
> High pressure switch in the clean oil outlet
> Water transducer to avoid water mixing
Alarms and shut downs
The following gives a general list of alarms only some of which may be fitted.

> Back Pressure low alarm & shutdown- this measures the discharge oil pressure and alarms and initiates a shut down when below a set value

> Back pressure high alarm & shut down- this measures the discharge oil pressure and alarms and initiates a shut down when the value is higher than set value
> Feed pressure low alarm & shut down-  Alarm and shut down when feed pressure is low.
> High oil temperature alarm and shut down
> Low oil temperature alarm and shut down
> Heavy phase overflow- when the oil overflow through water side  make an alarm
> Bowl not open- this may be done in several ways, typically by a lever switch operated by the discharged sludge hitting a striker plate. The other method is by measuring the motor current, when the bowl opens the bowl speed is dragged down due to friction effects of the discharging sludge and water. The motor current rises until full speed is re-established. This is detected by a current sensing relay
> Water in oil- This found on modern designs which have a detection probe mounted in the oil discharge
> Low control/seal water pressure- Where control water is supplied via a fixed small header tanks a float switch may be fitted.

    1. striker plate is provided with a lever switch to identify the sludge discharge in correct time. in some other purifiers motor current is monitoring for the same
      hope you got it..

    1. yeah, its westfalia, "clean oil discharge pressure low" normally comes when there is a prblm with back pressure.. is there any overflow through sludge port? how much time it will run with out any alarms? have you checked the back pressure sensor? can you please elaborate little more about your problem?

    1. this is because of lot many reasons like, leaky orings, solinoidal valves malfunctioning, operating water pressure low, drain of operating water get chock etc.

  9. During a normal sludge discharge, displacement water is added to the bowl for a pre-defined amount of time. Typically during this time, the water transducer MT4 will begin to detect a slight increase in the water content of the oil as the oil/water interface moves inward due to the added displacement water. When this change occurs, the system initiates a "shoot" momentarily opening the bowl to purge the accumulated sludge/water/dirt.

If, for some reason, that increase in the water content of the oil explained above is not detected within the preset duration of displacement water (parameter P70) after two consecutive discharges, an A7-10 alarm will be triggered.

As explained in the Alfa-Laval manual, this could be caused by a faulty bowl seal that is allowing water leakage before it can be detectd by the water transducer. Another cause may be a malfunctioning displacement water supply or a breakdown of seperator internals such as the pairing disc or pairing chamber cover that are a part of water removal system. The manual warns that non-remedied A7-10 alarms run the risk of causing equipment breakdown

  12. Hello I got an alarm stating "ejection monitoring alarm" on westfalia OD60. I already tried changing gasket of bowls, replaced clutch shoes, and gaskets, and still has alarm. What could be the other causes of this..?

  14. There is abnormal water content in the dishcarge of my lube oil purifier, I already changed the Orings and the Gravity disc. Hidens alarm still triggers. The solenoid valves of operating waters seem ok. What should I do? I tried everything
