Rudder Swing Test And Its Procedure

What Is Rudder Swing Test? >To check the rudder swing in port and starboard directions and its maximum movement in both the directions.

> Also the jumping stopper clearance, pintle bush clearance, and neck bush clearance is checked for three conditions: center, port swing, and starboard swing.
Procedure
 >The first step is to keep the rudder at the center position.
> The rudder centering is done earlier so that the ship center, shaft center, and the rudder stock center meet at a point.
>From this point, along the center-line of the ship, a line is drawn which is the zero degree of the rudder movement.
>Once that is established, the various measurements are taken. The clearances are all measured using a thickness gauge with a range of 0.03 to 1 mm
